Paris in a Week

PARIS, the ‘Capital of France’ and the ‘Capital of fashion’ is indeed a glamorous, romantic and beautiful city. This abode of multifarious arts is definitely a dream destination that you can never seem to have enough of. However, with a little bit of planning you can cover the hot spots and cherish this fulfilling experience in your chest of memories. Here’s how to do it:

At the outset of your dream journey, contact Tourist Information Center to get a City Map, information about public transport and visiting hours of tourist attractions. You can get information on any discounts and special activities going on in Paris around the time of your trip (e.g Christmas Markets, Seasonal Festivals). Try to get information on:

Transport
Public Transport combined with walking/riding a bicycle is perfect to cover maximum parts of the city. Boat rides and tourist buses are other options.

Culinary
When it comes to gastronomy, France is the name for excellence. You can get all kinds of palatable and scrumptious food on the menu. Don’t forget to taste the world famous wine and cheese in France.

Shopping
You can get options to suit your budget. From petite souvenir shops on streets to opulent shopping malls, choose what you want. For the extravagant, Champs-élysées or ‘Galeries Lafayette’ are great options.

Nightlife
If you are ready for a little mischief, Pigalle is the place for you. For exotic entertainment there is ‘Moulin Rouge’ besides several pubs & discos.

Equipped with all the information you are ready to explore Paris.

Day 1
Take a look at ‘Eiffel Tower’ from Trocadero and walk towards ‘Les Invalides’ from Champs-de mars. After visiting ‘Les Invalides’ cross Pont (bridge) Alexander to see ‘Grand Palais’and ‘Petit Palais’. Now let’s visit ‘Place de la Concorde’and take a metro to ‘La Defence’. Admire the towering ‘Grande Arche’ and other skyscrapers in the area. Linger around and wait till the sun sets. You can feel the tumult of the busy day fading away with the dark as the night bestows a fairyland upon you.

Day 2
You can visit Notre Dame on the second day and later go to Centre Georges Pompidou and wait excitedly in the queue to conquer the ‘Eiffel Tower’. Mount the Eiffel before evening and wait till night to witness a splendid view of the ‘City of Light’ and the dazzling Iron Beauty with twinkling stars on it.

Day 3
If you are an art connoisseur, you’ll enjoy ‘Musée du Louvre’. Brochures distributed at the entry will help you to stay focused or you might end up spending entire vacation at Louvre. Then you can visit ‘Arc de Triomphe’and admire it by night illuminated with lights. A stroll on ‘Champs-élysées’ at night is heavenly.

Day 4
Cover ‘Panthéon’, ‘Opéra Garnier’ and move forward to ‘Basilica of the Sacré Cœur’. If your heart desires you can get yourself a beautiful portrait sketch drawn by one of the numerous artists dawdling in the lanes beside the church. Watching the sunset from the Montmartre with music perforating in the atmosphere surely awakens a romantic spirit.

Day 5
Choose amongst ‘Musée d'Orsay’, ‘Musée Picasso’, ‘Musée Rodin’ the replica ‘Statue of Liberty’ and ‘Jardin du Luxembourg’ for the day. A city view from ‘Montparnasse’ will also be wonderful. But ensure to catch a boat ride at night on the river Seine to enjoy the shimmering play of light on water.

Day 6
A day’s tour is needed to visit the royal ‘Versailles Palace’ and admire its beautiful, limitless garden. You can rent a row boat and enjoy a ride in the palace pond.

Day 7
You might want to revisit some places or check out options like a trip to Disneyland or visit Roland Garros.

The mesmerizing beauty of Paris elevates the spirits and I am sure you still wouldn’t have had your heart’s fill. Joe Dassin’s thought in ‘Aux Champs-élysées’ might cross your mind too:

In the sun or in the rain
At noon or night
It has got everything you want.
